Chapter 17 – THE HOUSEKEEPER SPEAKS

Our former housekeeper, Rosa, had not quit.

Colin told me she did.

In fact, he called.

“Alessandra wants family privacy for the first month.”

Rosa believed him.

Why wouldn’t she?

He was my husband.

The meal service received:

Please suspend at Alessandra’s request.

The night nurse company:

Family will manage internally.

Each message came from Colin.

Giorgio’s office received:

Alessandra is overwhelmed by staff. Please do not replace services without checking with us.

Dad’s assistant replied:

Understood. Giorgio will respect her preference.

A complete bridge of lies.

No forged signatures.

No hacked accounts.

No complex fraud.

Just one spouse speaking on behalf of another because everyone assumed marriage meant authority.

Rosa cried during her statement.

“I would have come.”

I held her hand.

“I know.”

That mattered.

The system failed partly because no one asked me directly.

Afterward, Dad’s office adopted a simple rule.

If a service is for Alessandra, confirm changes with Alessandra.

Not revolutionary.

Useful.
