At 3:30 in the morning on May 27, 2020, a burglar alarm went off at a Wells Fargo branch on Euclid Avenue in the Chollas View neighborhood of San Diego. Police were dispatched immediately.
When they arrived, they found a broken window near the drive-thru. Surveillance footage from inside the bank told the rest of the story. A man had climbed in and headed straight for the employee break room. He was not there for the money.
He was there for the microwave.
For roughly an hour, police surrounded the building while the man finished what he came to do. He was arrested without incident. As he was led outside in handcuffs, reporters were waiting. One asked him if he had really broken into a bank for a Hot Pocket.
“Yes, all that for a Hot Pocket,” he said.
They pressed him. Was it worth it?
“Hell yeah it was worth it. A Hot Pocket? Hell yeah.”
He was arrested on suspicion of burglary. Authorities never released his name.
