A robbery suspect made a mistake that investigators rarely see when he allegedly left behind a document containing his own personal information at the scene of the crime.
According to police reports, a man entered a business in Columbus and attempted to rob the store. During the incident, he reportedly left behind a folder containing paperwork that included details about his identity.
Among the documents was a resume with the suspect’s name and personal information.
Instead of creating a difficult investigation involving security cameras and witness interviews, the suspect had unintentionally provided police with one of the most useful clues possible.
Investigators were able to use the information left behind to identify the person they believed was responsible.
The unusual mistake quickly attracted attention because of the irony of the situation. Many people joked that the suspect had essentially submitted his application to be caught.
