Adriana’s first marriage lasted 15 years. When it broke down, she moved back to her hometown in São Paulo, Brazil.
That’s where she met Leandro. They fell in love quickly, moved in together, and had a daughter. By 2014 they had been together for seven years.
Both had grown up without knowing their birth mothers. Both had been abandoned as babies by a woman named Maria. They even joked about it once, what a funny coincidence that their mothers shared the same name. Maria is one of the most common names in Brazil. They assumed it meant nothing.
Still desperate for answers about her origins, Adriana contacted Radio Globo’s program “The Time Is Now,” a show that specializes in reuniting lost relatives.
Researchers traced her birth mother and arranged a live reunion on air.
It was deeply emotional. Adriana was finally meeting the woman who had given her up as a baby. The interview was going well.
Then near the end of the program, Maria mentioned something else. She said she also had a son she had abandoned years ago. A younger boy she had never stopped thinking about. His name was Leandro.
Adriana broke down on air completely.
“I don’t believe that you’re telling me this,” she said. “Leandro is my husband. Now I’m scared to go home and find out that Leandro doesn’t want me anymore. I love him so much.”
The following day the couple contacted Radio Globo to confirm they had spoken about the revelation together.
